Pie Crust Butter and Shortening

🥘 Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour
    1.25 c
  • ice water
    4 tbsp
  • salt
    3/4 tsp
  • sugar
    1/2 tsp
  • unsalted butter (chilled and cubed)
    3 tbsp
  • vegetable shortening
    6 tbsp

    Mix together all-purpose flour , salt , and sugar .
    all-purpose flour: 1.25 c, salt: 3/4 tsp, sugar: 1/2 tsp

    Cut in vegetable shortening and unsalted butter until it resembles coarse meal.
    vegetable shortening: 6 tbsp, unsalted butter: 3 tbsp (chilled and cubed)

    Drizzle the ice water in, 1 tablespoon at a time, and stir with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon after every tablespoon. Stop adding water when the dough begins to form large clumps.

    Using hand, fold the dough into itself until the flour is fully incorporated into the fats. Form it into a ball.

    Chill dough for at least ⏱️ 60 minutes .
